Project Brief

This property, situated on a residential road, is arranged over four floors and compromises of two receptions, large bathroom, kitchen and five bedrooms with a large rear garden. Our task was to increase the space of the property and design a rear extension, loft conversion and cater for the internal refurbishment alterations. We were also tasked to design the full temporary works required throughout the project.

Proposed Foundation Plan

Key elements include the eccentric trench fill foundation & ground beams wrapped in D49 fabric & incased in 75mm concrete.

Proposed Section C-C

Here the first floor is to propped down to the ground floor. 2 layers of scaffold either side with acrow prop size specified and timber spreader at base.

Here the acrow props with scaffold ties and cross bracing both sides per needle are designed to ensure stability throughout construction.

Permanent Works Design

Detailed Design

The design consisted of new joists for the flat roof extension, with timber trimmers for roof-lights. A new terrace roof was also designed as well as a large double storey, steel box frame design for lateral stability of the main property. The loft consisted of new full span floor and roof beams. A new atrium and foundation (mass concrete infill) was proposed along with a new cavity wall design for the extension walls.

The large rear glass opening consisted of a steel frame design and sway stability was undertaken to check the strength of the steel frames.

The full temporary works design included pins and struts for the rear flank wall opening and internal spine wall opening.

All design was finally checked and drafted on AutoCAD. Structural details and sections all provided.
